The actor Pat Finn had a key role in the well-loved TV show The Middle.

Stateside performer Pat Finn, who appeared in beloved TV shows including Friends, Seinfeld and "The Middle", has died aged 60.

The comedic improv actor died at home in LA this Monday following treatment for a cancer diagnosis beginning in 2022, per news outlets.

"Pat Finn never met a stranger - just potential friends he had yet to meet," his loved ones stated in a announcement.

They added that he had "lived his life fully - with joy and exuberance".

A Notable Television Career

His debut TV appearance was in the George Wendt Show in the mid-90s, where he played the lead character's sibling.

He also had a repeating character on Murphy Brown in the latter half of the 1990s.

He appeared as the character Joe Mayo in "Seinfeld" in 1998, playing a social organizer who would assign burdensome jobs to his guests.

In the 90s and 2000s, he made guest appearances on a variety of popular shows, such as:

  • The King of Queens
  • Friends
  • That '70s Show
  • "House"

Finn was perhaps best known for playing the character Bill Norwood in The Middle, appearing throughout eight series between 2011 and 2018.

His film credits are It's Complicated (2009) and Santa Paws 2: The Santa Pups.

Off-Screen Life

Away from his on-screen roles, Finn was deeply involved in improvisational comedy and also taught at the University of Colorado, where he was a professor.

He was a member of a six-person improv troupe called "Beer Shark Mice".

"Pat guided, supported, and advised many learners over the years and you'd be hard-pressed to find someone anywhere who has anything negative to say about him," his family wrote.

Paying homage, fellow actor Richard Kind said there was "no kinder, gentler, funnier, authentic human being you could encounter".

"Perpetually optimistic, making those around him better and funnier. An excellent dad and person," Kind wrote publicly.

The actor is remembered by his partner Donna, his three kids, and his mother, father, and brothers/sisters.
