Former Doctor Charged with Assault Charges Involving Thirty-Eight Patients

Prosecutors report that a former physician has been charged with performing sexual assaults involving thirty-eight individuals who were patients.

Details of the Serious Charges

The accused, Nathaniel Spencer from Birmingham is accused of dozens of sexual offences – including acts against children younger than 13 – between 2017 and 2021.

One senior prosecutor stated, “Legal teams have diligently worked to assist a thorough and intricate investigation, carefully reviewing the available evidence to determine that there is sufficient evidence to proceed to trial and that it is in the interest of justice.”

Scope of the Investigation

These allegations come after what police called a “complex investigation” into alleged assaults at two hospitals: the Royal Stoke university hospital and a facility in Dudley.

Spencer will appear at the local magistrates' court on January 20th.

Prosecutors outline the forty-five charges comprise:

  • Fifteen counts of assault.
  • Seventeen counts of penetrative assault.
  • 9 counts of assault on a minor under thirteen.
  • Three counts of penetrative assault on a child under thirteen.
  • One count of attempted penetrative assault.
