19 of Medvedev's 21 titles have been achieved on hard courts

A revitalized Daniil Medvedev secured his maiden trophy for nearly 30 months with a win over Corentin Moutet in the competition title decider.

The Russian, a former world number one, has experienced a difficult period, achieving just a single victory at the big events and experiencing a meltdown at the New York tournament.

His inconsistency on the professional circuit - and difficulties with his service game in specific - led to him dropping out of the world's top 10 and finally parting ways with former trainer Gilles Cervara.

Now training with Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, he has consistently progressed in the last few weeks - climaxing in a hard-fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 victory over challenger Moutet.

It is his first championship following the 2023 Rome Masters and initial on a hardcourt since spring of 2023.

The win also signifies the Russian has won 21 titles at 21 different tournaments.

"For the first time I am participating in a competition with my children together, so to win a trophy is really nice," commented world number 14 the champion.

"This victory is in honour of my younger daughter my daughter, because the first title I achieved when my first daughter her name was delivered was for her."

The tennis star, the past champion, had been defeated in his past six finals, comprising in the German tournament earlier this year.

Medvedev's retrieving play style and regular emotional displays on the tennis court had caused commentators to question if his skill to compete at the top level was concluded.

Yet the athlete has implemented adjustments in the past month, striving to come to the net and play positively, supported by an better service.

The champion came back from a deficit in the opening set against the tricky Moutet, winning four of the final five games to go ahead.

The competitors traded breaks in the following set before the challenger, striving for his initial professional title, took control to create a final set.

He saved 4 early-game chances in a competitive third set before Medvedev secured a break to that score to close out the victory.

Fittingly, he secured victory with a point at the net area, with his opponent incapable to manage a volley after two hours and 38 minutes.
