That Gruesome Animated Film Conclusion That Haunts Fans

Out of all the mature animated films I have ever viewed, nothing has lingered in my mind quite like the terror-laced ending of the viscerally violent as well as overwhelingly transgressive 2022 movie Unicorn Wars.

Back in the year 2015, the Spanish writer-director created a dark, melancholy , frequently brutal universe with some tiny , desolate glimmers of hope.

While The Unicorn Wars seems like it originated from an impulse to advance animation further, the director explained that it was actually an attempt to convey a widespread, cross-cultural message regarding “the mutual source of all wars.”

This theme is conveyed through a group of colorful pastel bears , openly inspired by a well-known line of lovable characters.

Growing up in a community centered on aggression and the defense industry, numerous these animals are obsessed with killing unicorns, because of a religious scripture which states the bears they previously were kings of the woodland, before the horned beings expelled them.

A few haven’t fully fallen for the indoctrination, and prefer to sample drugs or engage sexually in the woods.

In contrast to their cuddly counterparts, these bright beings have visible genitals and definite urges.

For one notably brutal, pessimistic creature, the character Bluey, the conflict with unicorns transforms into a road toward dominance — and particularly to authority above his more tender, more compassionate sibling the bear Tubby.

This bear behaves aggressively and an apparent sociopath , and while fear dominates his squad and kills his fellow soldiers sequentially, he seizes progressively power on his own behalf, in increasingly gory, harmful methods.

At the same time, the horned creatures are experiencing their own nightmare, in the form of an expanding, harmful creature in their woods.

“In the early stages, it feels like a lighthearted film,” the director said. “However it becomes a more dramatic and sorrowful film. And in the finale, it transforms into a horror film.”

Unicorn Wars starts out similar to one of the more quirky features by a legendary filmmaker, which find a mischievous joy in permitting cartoon characters curse, shoot each other, or sex each other up.

Then it turns into something more like a more grim film from the same director, including ever more explicit brutality , a noticeable link to the real suffering of conflict.

In the finale, it’s a full-on extreme drama massacre.

The terror which makes this a perfect Halloween watch begins well before than that description suggests.

The Unicorn Wars is one for the hardcore gorehounds, for fans of graphic films who want to view a film they’ve never watched previously, and who can handle a narrative that pulls unflinching brutality.

Watch it with the lights off with no disturbances, and that ending will burrow deep within you and take up residence there.
