Vince Gilligan Discloses He Knows How Pluribus Might Finish... At the Moment.

The acclaimed writer-producer did not foresee that his new science-fiction series would turn into a breakout success. “I am so grateful to the audience,” he states. “It was unexpected the show being as widely discussed as it is, and it makes me thrilled beyond words.”

With the first season of the hit sci-fi show coming to an end—and Season 2 greenlit and underway—the creative team reflected on the viewer reception and whether it will impact the future direction of Pluribus.

Regarding the Tremendous Fan Response

Anyone might to get swayed by the rampant praise and fan theories regarding Pluribus. The creator is striving to steer clear of all that.

“The experience is akin to force fed something incredibly sweet and being laughing uncontrollably,” he says. “It's amazing, but I learn of it through word of mouth, and that's intentional. Never in my life looked myself up on the internet, nor do I ever plan to. Not because I don't care. It's a rabbit hole I know I would get lost in and then I'd be never leaving the house from Home Depot and I'd be stuck in my living room.”

In spite of his concerted efforts, there’s no escaping the immensely favorable response to the series. The only approach for the writers is to take it in stride and try not to let it influence the direction of the show.

“It is not our goal to adjust our writing,” says co-executive producer Alison Tatlock. “The plot we develop is not influenced by audience chatter.”

“It's wiser to keep our focus on the work,” Gilligan concludes.

A Pressing Query: Will the creator See the Ending of Pluribus?

Considering the creative staff are not listening by audience theories, can we assume they already know how Pluribus will ultimately end? Essentially yes… with some caveats.

“We have some potential directions about where the show might end up,” he states. “yet we stand ready to discard a solid concept for a superior concept. That philosophy has guided us in excellent shape on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We change course when we get a better idea and I suspect we'll be doing that.”

Then again, if plans fall through, director and writer Gordon Smith has a rather amusing idea to use as a backup.

“I constantly suggest that the entire story is inside a snow globe, and that we'll zoom out in the finale and that's where they've been all along,” Smith jokes, “though the idea hasn't gained traction.”

Of course, why mess with the legendary finales?

“I'd love for Carol to awaken with Bob Newhart there,” Gilligan adds, smiling.

Pluribus is streaming now on the streaming service.
