Vince Zampella, the mind behind the immensely successful video game Call of Duty, has died in a vehicle crash in California at the age of 55.

The tragic news was verified by Electronic Arts, which owns Respawn Entertainment, the development studio which he helped establish.

The celebrated game designer lost his life when his car crashed and caught fire on a freeway in the Los Angeles area on Sunday, as reported by.

"This represents a heartbreaking loss, and our hearts are with his family and friends, his loved ones, and everyone impacted by his legacy," a representative from Electronic Arts commented.
